Price heeft één oog op wereldtitel

Gerwyn Price heeft uit de doeken gedaan dat hij één oog op de wereldtitel heeft na zijn overwinning op de World Series of Darts Finals in Salzburg afgelopen weekend.

Price kwam van een 8-4 achterstand om Rob Cross met 11-9 te verslaan in de finale van de World Series Finals en hiermee revanche pakte na de verloren finale van het Europees Kampioenschap in 2019.

Price won ook al de laatste twee toernooien van de PDC Autumn Series en heeft daarmee nu 17 wedstrijden op rij gewonnen. Ook wist hij £90.000 bij elkaar te spelen in zijn laatste vijf actieve dagen.

PRICE: "The big one [World Championship] is the one I want,

Obviously, I've got one eye on the Worlds and what it would mean to be World Champion.

But first of all I'm looking forward to the European Tour event next week and the World Grand Prix after that. 

Whoever is going to beat me will have to play really well and take their chances because if they don't then I will.

I believe that my 'A game' is better than anybody else's and that's all that matters. I'm confident in my own game.

I was winding Daryl Gurney up in the week saying 'give me three years and nobody will beat me' but now I seem to believe that."

Price wist tijden de World Series Finals een matchpijl in de beslissende leg van Nathan Aspinall te overleven, waarna hij in de halve finales Peter Wright aan de kant zette. Wright gooide in deze wedstrijd een gemiddelde van 108.

Nadat Cross in de finale op een 8-4 voorsprong kwam met een 110 finish, herpakte de Welshman zichzelf en wist zeven van de volgende acht legs te winnen en de titel te pakken op zijn favoriete dubbel 20.

ORICE: "I'm proud of myself for the way I dug deep to get the win.

I've had to do that a few times in the last couple of weeks.

I never give up anymore and I always believe I can win from any position in a game.

Halfway through the game I was beating myself up and I shouldn't be like that.

I was thinking 'oh here we go, just my luck' and I shouldn't think like that. I should be expecting players to play well against me.

I'm still learning and winning events like this gives me a bit more belief."

Price, en 47 andere PDC-sterren, zullen komend weekend het twee European Tour toernooi van dit jaar splen. Het German Darts Championship vindt plaats van 25 t/m 27 september in Halle 39 in Hildesheim, Duitsland.
