Humphries wil fantastische 12 maanden vol maken in ''droomfinale''

Luke Humphries gelooft dat hij zijn BoyleSports World Grand Prix titel kan prolongeren om ''de beste 12 maanden'' af te ronden.

Humphries won op de World Grand Prix 2023 zijn eerste ranking TV-titel door Gerwyn Price in de finale in Leicester te verslaan.

Dat succes werd opgevolgd door overwinningen op de Grand Slam of Darts en de Players Championship Finals voordat hij de nummer één van de wereld werd door het wereldkampioenschap te winnen.

Humphries won sinds dien de World Cup of Darts en de World Matchplay en haalde de finales van de UK Open en de Premier League.

Hij zal het op zondagavond opnemen tegen Mike De Decker in de finale van de World Grand Prix en geeft toe dat een overwinning op de opkomende Belg zijn opmerkelijke jaar compleet zou maken.

HUMPHRIES: "I've achieved so much in the last 12 months and I'd love to go and cap it off with one more. If I can win, it really would mean a lot and it would be the most incredible 12 months.

I've achieved something which is absolutely incredible.

I've had so many appearances where I've just got that bit of luck - many times in your career you'll win tournaments on a bit of luck, and I have, but you need that bit of class when it means the most."

Humphries speelde voor het eerste tegen De Decker op de Development Tour, het circuit dat ook Dimitri van den Bergh naar succes hielp.

HUMPHRIES: "75% of the field [in the semi-finals] was part of the Development Tour and that's a credit to the PDC because without that secondary tour, who knows if all three of us would have been here.

It's a credit to them for setting up these secondary tours, allowing us players to come on and achieve our dreams. 

I think it's a dream final, it really is. We've had so many battles and it's going to be a good game. Mike's playing well and I know I'm going to have to be at my best again."

De finale op zondag begint om 21:00. Humphries zal dan proberen om slechts de derde speler te worden die de World Grand Prix titel weet te verdedigen. De Decker zal proberen om de tweede Belg te worden die een PDC TV-titel weet te winnen.

Humphries is de 1/6-favoriet bij titelsponsor BoyleSports voorafgaand aan de finale op zondag, De Decker is de 4/1-outsider voor de £120.000 eerste prijs.
